Definition of Terms:
Suspension Type- A system which provides a method for absorbing shock as well as attachment of axles to a vehicle frame.
Torsion -Axles that feature a self contained integral rubber suspension system
eliminating any additional suspension components.
Leaf Spring - A spring composed of several flat steel strips, bundled together to form a shock absorbing, load carry suspension component.
Axle Capacity - The rated capacity of the axle assembly as defined by the lowest rated component in the system. Those components considered are the axle beam, brakes, hubs and drums.
Brake Type - Choose from the following brake systems:
Beam – Replacement axle assembly without hubs or brakes.
Idler – Non brake axle assembly with hubs assemblies.
Electric – A mechanical brake system used in conjunction with drum brakes that actuates electromagnets. The electrical source is supplied from the tow vehicle by an electronic brake controller.
Hydraulic – A mechanical braking system used on conjunction with drum brakes that actuates by hydraulic pressure. The hydraulic fluid is supplied from a hydraulic actuator.
Disc – A mechanical braking system used in conjunction with brake calipers and rotors that actuates by hydraulic pressure. The hydraulic fluid is supplied from a hydraulic actuator.
